after doing the upgrade 2.0.1 the application still wouldn't start up. i ended up re-installing from scratch. the upgrade went smoothly, but i lost a few features. in particular, i miss the ability to "save as new version" in the albums panel. i'm not sure why the save-as option isn't there anymore. it seems to be gone. also, the buttons in the view are quite small. i'm having to zoom way in to get them large enough to be able to select images. i also can't select more than one set of thumbnails.

so, i received the update for lightroom 2.0.1 and then sat back to watch what would happen. shortly afterwards, i got the message that the software could not be opened. i tried to uninstall the software and reinstall it from the mac app store with the same result. i tried uninstalling the software from my machine then reinstalling it from the mac app store. with the uninstall, i still had the "save as new version" feature that was so useful.

for example, you might have something like this: f with white balance adjustment layer. that might mean "1/1" on that white balance layer. if you have something like this: m with masking adjustment layer. that means this is masking out for you. i'm going to have an example of those in a minute. but you could also have the adjustment with a white background. that's the same thing, but here's what you might see. this is my image with an adjustment that has black background, and again, i'll show you when we get into that what that looks like. and then here's another where i have another adjustment. this one, again, it's masking out. okay. so let's move over to the adjustment layers. and so, when we open up an adjustment layer, you'll see that there's a little little icon in the top left. this is what that looks like. you have a ton of different adjustments that you can apply to a layer. so you have one of each of these. and you can switch to one and apply that to a layer. now, i'm gonna open up my first, f, which means "1/1", white balance. so i'm gonna go to the white balance, because you can see that as i just hit it, all right, it opened up the little one. and i see when you hit it, it's not the very top. it's probably about half way in. so just kind of click on it and look it up. but it means "1/1", which means one adjustment for this layer, on the white balance for this layer, just one. it's default white balance, and i have it set to this view, which is the image. so it's just showing me what that looks like. and i'm going to push apply there, and i'm just going to click with my mouse on the adjustment and apply it directly to the layer. to do that, i'm just gonna go to the top left and i'm gonna click and drag it, and just click on the layer up here. and i just go to the top left where it says, yeah, just click, and drag it. and it will apply it to the current layer. the beauty about this is, because you've applied the adjustment to the layer, now you can make another adjustment. so again, i'm gonna push one, and the second, and push apply and that is just to go to the third. see, i did the white balance adjustment. and i can switch back and i can apply another, and now i'm going to apply something that is the opposite of that. so i'm going to go over here to the masks, because i want to apply something to this to specifically mask out for me what's underneath. and so i'm going to go to the masks, and now i'm going to just kind of, you know, flip through the different masks, and i'm going to go to black. the benefit of this is i can mask it out. i can make a choice to mask out the background and apply that masking layer only to what i want on the picture. so this means i can mask the white out, and i can apply it only to the white areas of the photo. and this is usually what i do. now, i can go to the adjustments, and i can apply that adjustment directly to the layer. but, again, i've already applied that. so i can actually switch to the white balance, and then i can apply the white balance to the layer. and i'm gonna push apply. and, as you can see, this is a little bit different. 84d34552a1
