thirukkural,a masterpiece poem has been written by thiruvalluvar. it is a collection of 4000 couplets. every couplet has certain number of consonant so its called as adipoli. they came in tamil during 12 th to 13 th centuries. at first it was written in a different language called tamilagam. it then was rewritten in tamil. in tamilagam not all the lines were written. only the consonants were written. it was removed later because its not a proper format. it was later rewritten in a proper format which is known as adipoli. 


these couplets were composed based on a concept. sri thiruvalluvar met lord rama and obtained the knowledge of various concepts. the concepts based on which he wrote these couplets are also known as thiruvalluvar thirukkural. they are not recited in the temple, but only read and studied.


this work should be compared to another very famous work of tamil literature. that is thirukkural. they have some similarity in topics. the greats of tamil poetry, sri kuralar used this work like a guideline.
