the third type of scholars who are involved in the interpretation of the quran are those of the understanding (ta'aleem), and these are the people who look at the meaning of the words (tafsir al-tamkeem), not at the words themselves (al-tafsir al-arba'in). these scholars do not rely upon words themselves, but upon the meaning of a word taken by the context within which it is used. thus they are seen to be the best in the realm of tafsir since their method requires them to delve into the meaning of the tafsir rather than rely upon the written words that may easily have been confused.

"god is the one who creates the human (adam) from one (clot of blood).." (al-quran 7:23). there are two interpretations of this verse. according to al-mustamimi al-lidani 44, god uses the verse to exhort a group of people who look down upon the people of the book (to remind them of their past sins and to drive them away), and he links the verse to the last verses of chapter 21 and verse 65 of the quran, verse (64):
