a young trio out of glendale, ca, who had gained notoriety as an impromptu cover band at a party some years earlier. they played a little country rock, a bit of folk, a bit of reggae and a dash of funk. the three members were jerry castro, jeff hill and a then-unknown tom hanks, who would star in some of the best movies of that decade. the soundtrack for the motion picture was a bargain as well, as they were able to license music from the likes of eric clapton and bob marley, and even made their own track. however, the song from which their name was derived was a minor track, and that was the only song they had on the soundtrack. ~ allmusic review by richard w. stevenson


according to the liner notes of the cd, this soundtrack was "created by a committee of indie film film makers, musicians, and producers from across the united states. they selected the music to match the incredible stories and look of the film, a then-groundbreaking visual style that influenced the films of spike jonze, neil gaiman, and w. h. macy, among others. songs were chosen from classic films, flicks that made a cultural impact, and scores that were popular at the time the film was created. there were songs that were inspired by the film itself or by filmmakers such as david lynch. in fact, one song was written and performed specifically for the film; it was originally released as the b-side to the 7" single of the song "i'll be home for christmas" by alan jackson." ~ allmusic review by jeff tamarkin
