THIS COMMAND LINE TOOL HAS SECURITY ISSUES - PLEASE READ THE "IMPORTANT NOTES" BELOW

Command Line Interface (CLI) for setting up the .npmrc file that sets up the configurations for accesing the private IBM RESEARCH BRASIL's Artifactory Repository.

This tool is published in the public NPM repository and is used to facilitate the default configurations for accessing the private repositories.

CURRENTLY, THIS TOOL ONLY SETS UP THE .NPMRC GLOBALLY !!!

(Make sure that is this is what you want!)

Prerequisites

Installing NPM

BRL-NPMRC-GEN is distributed as a npm module and needs Node.js to run. Luckly, npm is already distributed with Node.js, so you only need this latter one running.

Further instructions can be found on the npm installation web page.

To confirm that you have npm installed you can run:

npm -v

Installing the tool

To use that tool its simple. To install it from the public repository:

npm install -g brl-npmrc-gen

Using the Tool

Now, to use the tool you need to provide your IBM credentials (be careful when typing your password on the command line because it wont be hidden!):

brl-npmrc-gen <username> <password>

Example:

brl-npmrc-gen john.doe@br.ibm.com password123

Important Notes

• When using the command line tool your password will not be hidden when writing it!
• This command line tool only operates locally. It does not require any connection to function and it won't use your credentials. Its solely job is to create a local file with them stored.
• The .npmrc file generated by this tool DOES NOT offer any kind of security (such as cryptography) about the username and password stored locally. PLEASE BE AWARE OF SECURITY BREACHES for any user that has access to your computer's local user folder
• This tool overwrites any global .npmrc configuration file that already exists and is intended only to facilitate this proccess for people without anything configured. If you are an advanced user, you might not want to use this tool.
