The realization and design of a DSP is not just a matter of software but this must be carried out in hardware and the realization of such hardware is very important. For a DSP, several techniques are used to analyze the signal: Digital filtering for band-passing or band-rejectingBand-notching for avoiding any echoesSliding time windows for capturing transient signals

TMS320C54X COMPARISON FOR ANALOG DIGITAL PROCESSORSElection of the implementation and performance of TMS320C54X is based on a comparison between two basic classes of Digital Signal Processors, which are the programmable devices (PD's) and the fixed devices (FD's). Fixed devices do not provide programmability but can be programmed in assembly language. There are many advantages in using fixed devices over programmable devices, these are as follows:Fixed devices eliminate the problem of testing and debugging. Programming of fixed devices is comparatively simpler and fast as compared to programmable devices.Fixed devices have memories which are easily accessible and can be accessed either via a memory mapped I/O or a direct memory access. These memory spaces allow storage of small amounts of memory as compared to programmable devices which have large memories. In addition to this, since fixed devices provide memory map, they are more powerful.Fixed devices are less expensive as compared to programmable devices.

Integrated circuit chips for processing signals for several kinds of applications are continually being introduced into the market. These chips are often sold in commercial digital signal processors (DSPs). This is because these devices provide advantages over the application of discrete devices because they are packaged in a single device and they provide an increased yield. In addition to this, most of the functions of DSPs are incorporated in the device which makes the chip so small that it can be carried in a small portable device. And most importantly the price of these devices are competitive with the price of the discrete devices of the same capability.A DSP consists of several basic sub-parts:Memory for the data and the programsAn arithmetic logic unit or an ALU for the data manipulationA data bus for transferring data to and from external memory and to and from the arithmetic logic unitA number of peripherals to interface with the data bus or any external devicesSome level of processors to provide control over the data bus and the peripheral devicesA clock input to the DSP to synchronize the whole device 84d34552a1
