Dungeon Siege II is a role-playing game where players fight and quest through dungeons and other locations. Players can play solo or with up to four other characters through the original game and its sequel. The game is built on a hierarchical, party-based, turn based combat system. Players can summon or attract creatures to fight on their behalf while also dealing with enemies around them. Players can recruit enemy creatures to serve as in-party pets. As items are collected and experimented with, their abilities are increased. Levels are now determined by the amount of research points a player has gathered rather than manually levelling up. The game features an area map that allows the party to choose their battle point, as well as small details like a high-mood gauge and a health-and-mana bar. The game's map also features a map of the world which shows the player's party members and marked areas for dungeons and monster encounters. The area map is also used for showing the locations of the main party members and the alleys they can visit.
