my final contribution to this section are the chapter on curiosity. the authors make a case for curiosity being a vital element of successful learning. they cite a landmark paper by bruner in which he suggested that curiosity-driven inquiry is a primary element of learning. just as important, bruner suggested that it was inherent to the human experience. from an environmental perspective, they note that the need to learn may be higher in the 21st century, when rapid technological change provides new opportunities to learn. they also note that new media and online learning are among the best ways to help students learn. when students become more self-directed in their learning, they do not have to be as reliant on others and textbooks as in the past.

the final section of the book provides insights into what goes on in the brains of those under stress. as the authors note, the emotional component of climate change is invisible and is just as important as the physical effects. the authors point out that we are not the same people we were 40 years ago, and that we may have to rethink our relationship with the natural world. for example, we are no longer the hunters and gatherers of the past, and we cannot even imagine the environmental changes that are coming. thus, we must prepare ourselves to change the way we think and behave.

like all books, this one has strengths and weaknesses. on the whole, i found this book to be a useful resource for undergraduate courses in the field of environmental psychology. it's written in a style that should appeal to more advanced students as well, and it may be valuable for teaching courses in sustainable design and the brain. while it does not cover a number of topics, it does provide an excellent foundation for students seeking more information. the book is also a good read if you simply want to learn about environmental psychology. i highly recommend it. 84d34552a1
