The maximum lifetime diagnosis of crack cocaine use (26.5%) was found among the users of crack cocaine for over 3 years. Crack users who had been using crack for over three years had a higher risk of suffer mental disorders than users of crack cocaine for less than or equal to three years (Adjusted OR = 2.29, 95%CI: 1.19, 4.40). Furthermore, the highest lifetime diagnostic of mental disorders (18.8%) was found among the users of crack cocaine for over 3 years. Those who used crack cocaine for more than 3 years had a higher risk of crack use (Adjusted OR = 2.85, 95%CI: 1.71, 4.76) and mental disorders (Adjusted OR = 2.40, 95%CI: 1.16, 5.06) than users of crack cocaine for less than or equal to 3 years. The results showed that the users of crack cocaine for 3 years had an odds of substance use and mental disorders over 60% higher than those who used crack for less than or equal to 3 years.


Patients were chosen for inclusion in the study according to the following inclusion criteria: exposure status of“crack” and“cocaine” as reported in the previous KYRBWS; number of EC use more than zero; and age over 18. Finally, 107 users of crack and cocaine were included in the study.


In the statistical analyses, we used the median and the quartile of percentile as measures of central tendency and the Interquartile Range (IQR) as a measure of dispersion. We used the means of the values to describe the mean values of the EC use (days of EC use, cocaine, and crack use) and the levels of the biochemical variables (blood glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, LDL, and HDL). In addition, we also used the odds ratio for comparing the prevalence of crack or cocaine users and the EC use. To facilitate the interpretation of the results, ORs and the 95% CI were transformed into crude odds ratios and their 95% confidence intervals.
