In late 2017, a popular blogging platform called Tumblr suffered a massive data breach. Full name, IP addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and hashed Passwords of over 6 million users were exposed. The platform was later acquired by Automattic. At the time of writing, it is not clear whether the data exposed has been cleaned by Automattic or not.
On 13 February 2018, The Wall Street Journal reported that a Russian business software company LinkedIn had fallen victim to a massive data breach. This came three days after Russian hackers had compromised LinkedIn and leaked the user data on a pro-Putin website. The database contained user email addresses, names, phone numbers and their Passwords in plain text (as has been typical with Russian breaches). While no financial data was leaked, there was evidence that the hackers were aware of the corporate names within the database.
In November 2014, the website for the local social media service Carousels was defaced by an attacker posting their message and linking to a website selling a copy of a customer database. The website in question wasn't secured from the public internet and offered a download of the breached database. The data included over 128 million records (i.e. email addresses, names and usernames), however no Passwords, Facebook profiles or any other sensitive data was included. Carousels claimed to have not had any prior knowledge of the data being publically available and upon investigation into the source, the site was disabled and their customer base notified of the breach. The breach has been verified by HIBP and is marked as unverified as the source cannot be convincingly attributed to the attackers. 84d34552a1
