windows mobile device center, for one thing, is such a young product and has such a poor user experience that it really begs the question: are we in a market for windows phone 7 yet? is there still something there for us to use? is this going to be a fragmented, niche os for the really tech-savvy? i can understand the other side of the argument here, that you should be able to pick up some other windows mobile 7 phone for around £200 sim-free. then again, you're not going to be buying a thousand, and not everyone needs to have an ultra-specced tablet computer and/or phone.

but regardless of whether windows mobile 7 is good or not as a phone, the other nagging question to this use-case is: why does samsung want to charge that much for it? even if this does run on samsung's hardware (somewhat reminiscent of 2003), i'd have to say its quite an expensive mistake, especially when you're going into a market where apple and android (not to mention wp7) devices exist and are so readily available at much lower prices. even when you factor in nokia's lumia 610, which is (kind of) not that much more powerful, you're still paying a fair bit for a mobile os which should come as standard from the manufacturer.

well, there we have it. despite the fact that i've never even used an omnia m, because i've never liked windows mobile 7 as a phone and i still don't like it as a phone (despite it being available on the iphone) i thought i'd let you all know what it's like. as for the omnia m? too expensive for all but early adopters.

windows mobile devices, at least in my experience, are about pushing a large amount of data back and forth between phone and pc. why? because the os can't simply use the native syncing tool, which exists and is quite functional, so it has to use an external program, which is horribly unintuitive and always seems to hose things up. this is mainly the case because microsoft is desperately trying to push us away from desktop applications, which can be rather limiting in mobility. 84d34552a1
