The features of the product are extremely similar to those of the 3.0 audio recorder. The software of this product is exactly the same as the audio recorder. The functions and many of the settings are exactly the same as those found on the Audio recorder. It does not remove the audio track, instead it joins the analogue video track and the audio track together to create a digital video file that can be burned to DVD. It also allows you to remove the audio track from the video file so you can burn it without an audio track. You can even use the Honestech 4.0 software to burn your video DVD.


There are a couple of minor differences with this products software, the first is the tab of options that you access to choose how you want the file to be burnt. In the Audio Recorder, this was called the CDR option, but in this product, it is called the DVD Burning option. The other small difference is that if you burn a video DVD, it will be a 720×576 format, whereas in the previous version, it would have been in the standard DVD format. This product does not support the old VHS content resolution standard, therefore the video and audio that is recorded will be converted to the new 720×576 format. To be honest, I never got round to burning the previous 3.0 to DVD, so I will not know if the previous 3.0 will play on a DVD player without the audio track. Therefore, I will have to wait and see if it does, which I will do as soon as I have finished reviewing the 4.0 version.
