adobe flash has begun to mature. we have seen a lot of attention paid to the developer platform. from the xml language to the air platform, developers have now a full set of tools to help them build solid features. flash mx is an additional step into the right direction, but the vector interface and reliance on the xml language still makes the interface very difficult to use and read.

there is still room for improvement in a number of areas. i hope to see some key areas which will make adding features in flash much easier. im not alone in these desires and there is room for improvement in the functionality.

we have no information on macromedia's reaction to the legal issues that adobe has had with reading flash files. i dont know if they have announced some type of user-friendly solution for reading the flash file. we did a few years ago and it was not easy for flash to communicate back to us what was in the file.

the developers have begun a transition from relying on the flash mx core and xml language to basing their work on adobe air (adobe integrated runtime). air is based on java and has a vector engine that is much improved from the flash mx core.

java/air has a vector interface called the graphics context. this interface provides a standard vector-like environment to the developer and the interface can be translated in air so it appears native on the end-user end.

the vector-like applications written in flash are now written in air and conform more to the vector interface. the flex framework has evolved to run on the air vm and it is now possible to see applications based on flex that are native in appearance. 84d34552a1
