The Trackpad window works almost identically to Picture It Photo's interface. It can be dragged left and right to show the next two images in a section of the collection, or to peruse an entire folder. It provides similar organization tools, including the usual grouping by date (as well as by size and name, to which you can then add keywords) and view options (from Hide to Show to Zoom). Oddly, there's also a menu button. The only difference between the Trackpad and main window is that the main window gives you even more onscreen help by offering photo tutorials. There are also many photo processing tools, including histogram, curves, and exposure tools, and Spot Light, which lets you use a limited range of smoothing and sharpening tools. Editing tools include color adjustments (similar to those found in digital cameras), a clone tool to create a replacement image, and a text tool that lets you add tags.
Given its more sophisticated tools, Digital Image Pro is more expensive than the software equivalent of the low-end digi-cameras. Photo professionals will want to check out the bundled Capture NX2 Express 2.0, which is an extremely powerful photo-editing program with image-stacking capabilities. Even your basic, non-tech-savvy users might be tempted by the more multimedia-oriented Adobe's Photoshop Elements 2.0, which offers a solid list of editing tools to enhance basic photos.
Like Elements, Picture It! presents all the editing controls on a tiny screen. When you select any part of a photo, the rest shrinks to make room, and suddenly a bigger version of that part is back in its former place. If you select the wrong part of a photo and try to fix it, you get a cascade of error messages. A menu lets you reopen any photo in any version, and the latest version is the only one saved on the program's memory card. 84d34552a1
