before using any data, web content provider or data collector should first determine the accuracy of the data. inaccurate data could potentially have negative effects on program operations and availability. data provided by employees of the agency may be submitted or reported by agencies other than the ones requesting or using the data. in addition, data are sent directly to the agency seeking the data. please therefore, refer to the source document(s) from which the data were derived to ensure accuracy and reliability.

data selected from the filed into the appropriate data file and then loaded into a data extraction tool and the database. the number of employees, their positions, and their compensation status for a given period was extracted from the file and merged with other files. all data are stored in the database in one of three formats: a flat file containing employee and employer data, a data file that contains both employee and employer data and one or more timestamped databases containing only employee or only employer data.

the dhs-2 is a system of multiple database files that are used to aggregate information about employers and their employees. these files are case records containing employee and employer information about a group of employees sharing the same employer. the employee information files (t00) are classified by agency, s01 and employee information is aggregated in a separate data file. these files (t00) are combined with a master file that contains the agency code and the accounting period. all files are periodically combined into a single file using a linkage file. dhs-2 data are available from 1988 through the period covered by the data release. there are a total of 8757 data files totaling about 2.7 million records. this information can be used for several purposes, but is focused on the identification of large employers and their employees. there are also files of individuals' records, t12 and t14 that contain all individual employee level records for the years considered in this data release. this is a 1% sample of all records. 84d34552a1
