The U.S. Government is seeking to collect over $400 million from the Newstar Enterprises, which was operated out of Western Europe. According to court documents, the remaining Newstar Enterprise members face significant financial hardship as a result of this investigation. The IRS estimates that the net proceeds of their criminal activity through the Newstar Enterprise was $9.4 million, the majority of which went to cover the costs of the enterprise. A forfeiture complaint has been filed against an account of Kenneth Powers that is believed to be the one used to pay for many of the websites devoted to child pornography. The government has seized more than $20 million from that account to date. Kevin LaCroix, 37, of Maple Grove, MN, was arrested on October 30, 2011 at the CTA O'Hare International Airport as he attempted to board a flight to Greece.

According to court documents, Kenneth Powers, 58, of Weston, was the senior member and mastermind of the Newstar Enterprise and its subsidiaries. Starting in 2006, Newstar Enterprise operated three websites - Newstar Sun, NEWSTAR Sunshine and New Star Sunshine 2. The sites posted child modeling content for the purpose of transmitting sexual material to viewers across the globe. The Newstar Enterprise paid editors, photographers and webmasters to create, film and post content on the website, which was linked to child modeling sites in Europe and Asia. The websites traffic increased at a phenomenal rate, with complaints of over 2 million unique visitors in a single day and over 5 million unique visitors in 2006 alone. 84d34552a1
