trimming in the timeline is a breeze in pinnacle studio. you can simply drag the selected area out to the right or left, to trim it out. the trimming is handled automatically using the automatic trimming tool, which is surprisingly good. automatic trimming lets you eliminate clips that are over the maximum length or under the minimum, and automatically moves in the rest of the material. you can adjust the length by dragging the handle above the auto-trimmer to extend or shorten it. you can also adjust how much to trim each clip. the automatically setting the length is pretty good, but the result isn't always perfect. i occasionally got a clip that ended two seconds before the beginning of the next clip. you can overrule the automatic trimming, if you want. i generally did this with clips that i wanted to keep longer than the maximum.

i also like that the display in pinnacle studio goes by default into split screen mode. i'm not sure why this has become a trend, because it didn't really solve the problem. these days, most videos are shot in widescreen, so a 4:3 timeline always ends up looking stretched on a big widescreen monitor. but in split screen mode, the whole timeline is in 4:3, which looks a lot better. the issue with split screen mode is that the interface automatically switches to the 4:3 format whenever you're working on a clip, which is annoying if the content is intended for widescreen. so i recommend using the widescreen interface for editing projects intended for 4:3 screens, and switching to split screen mode when you're working with widescreen. 84d34552a1
