[ 1 ]. An uncorrelated random field process of the initial velocity is generated. Each model has some parameters on which it depends. An inversion of these parameters has to be done in order to match the model with the real physical parameters of the site. This routine is achieved by multiple linear regression analysis and a global calibration. This routine is based on the normal and Monte Carlo methods. Since model parameters are dependent on each other, the regression analysis has to be done in two steps: in a first step the solution for the parameters of interest is obtained. Then a linear regression is carried out to estimate the remaining parameters in order to fulfill the model with the real situations. The corresponding results are shown on results graphs. This model is not only a good model for groundwater flow but it can also be used to predict the AMD behavior in groundwater. An overview of the PMWIN 7.1 is presented.

[ 9 ]. PMWIN takes as input the files for the Parameters in a Grid (PIG) data file. One file contains the natural groundwater head or its hydraulic head and gradient. A second PIG file contains the hydraulic conductivity. A third PIG file contains the concentration of the contaminants. The rest of the PIG files contain the maximum allowed concentrations for the different contaminants in the aquifer.

About 40% of the surface of the Kettara mine site had been cleared and it had been reworked to establish the arable land. As a result of reworking approximately 4 km3 of tailings had been deposited in the field area [ 2 ]. The primary question in the short and medium term is whether the ground water infiltrated into this tailings deposit will produce AMD causing problems. This was a preliminary and exploratory study to examine the basic hydrogeological characteristics of the tailings area and compare them with the characteristics of the surrounding aquifers. The primary objective of the study was to describe the ground water conditions in the mine site and the surrounding aquifers based on the results obtained from the PMWIN numerical simulation program. The measured electrical resistivity of the investigated aquifer is about 14.8 mOhm.s from a length of 500 m. The hydraulic conductivity is about 6e-09 m2 s-1. The recharge rate in the study area is about 11mm per year. The average thickness of tailings deposit is 4.6 m and the thickness of natural bedrock and the associated overburden at the point where the ground water discharges is 4.2 m. The grain size of the sediment is fine sand. The volume of soil mineral is 19.8cm. The residence time of ground water is about 36 years Two zones were investigated. The top one is the natural sediments (from 0 to 4.2 m). The lowest one (at a depth of 0 to 4.2 m) includes the tailings deposits. Fifteen samples were taken for each zone and the results were: 10 samples in zone I and five samples in zone II. The results of the measured and simulated groundwater flow are shown on the following figures: pmwin 8 cracked The results of the simulated flowpath in zone I are shown. The figure 1 shows the location of the wells (with numbers). 84d34552a1
