there are two ways that idrisi can be installed. you can run the idrisi installation program (idrisi.exe) from the image processing software program folder, or you can download idrisi from the ges website at the following url:


 idrisi can be installed on the windows operating system (os) or the macintosh os. idrisi is designed for windows os with the exception of a macintosh os installer for idrisi. in the macintosh os, idrisi is only available as a stand alone application. in this lab, we will install idrisi on windows.


 1. idrisi 17.0 must be installed on the computer that you will be using. this is a standalone, offline image processing program that is not dependent on any external data. idrisi is not available as a 'download' program from the nasa goddard earth sciences courseware website. you must obtain the idrisi image processing program from another source. this program can be downloaded from the idrisi website,


idrisi selva 17 enables the user to include some new features like tabular layers, new modeling tools, simulation tools and some other new features in the existing version. some existing tools like distance based modules have been optimized greatly. it offers diversity of this image processing tools which includes a very wide variety of hard and soft classifiers, image segmentation tools and machine learning algorithms. 


idrisi selva 17 can support nearly all the geographical layers and spatial data formats. a user can easily generate an island shapefile by using the idrisi selva geographic layer editor. you can import a shapefile from a variety of popular gis software. if you are using arcgis, idrisi selva will also be able to read the shapefiles created by arcgis. idrisi selva 17 offers support to the most of the earth change products. the user can select a suitable collection of up to 10 products to process at the same time. idrisi selva 17 has got a detailed help file to show you all the methods and available options. it also has got an inbuilt help file and a tutorial to help the user to use the software. 84d34552a1
