As with all other Powerdesigner products, you can create DFDs in Process Analyst using the Building a DFD wizard or the right-click menu. Process Analyst uses a simple drag-and-drop interface which, not only makes it easier to construct a DFD but also makes it much faster to create DFDs compared to building a DFD using the Building a DFD wizard. You can drag the image of blocks you want to represent each system element, flow, or interaction, and then drag-and-drop the blocks, flows, or icons to place them in the correct location.

Wherever possible, place the blocks, flows, and icons on the appropriate dimension. If you represent system elements, their flow should be constrained by the dimension it is on. Similarly, if you represent a block, flows, or interactions, its dimensions should be constrained by the direction of the flow, the location or order of the block, or the structure or hierarchy of the block. In addition, most blocks and flows represent a process or a systems boundary, so you should usually place them on an active dimension (one that allows the flow to move through it.)

Before you can apply process profiling to your DFD, you need to consider how you want to represent the system or process. A single, independent, static DFD will provide the information you need for a single, discrete, indivisible system. But if the system does not behave discretely, you will likely have to create multiple DFDs, one for each part of the system.

Powerdesigner has many ways to define and draw flowcharts. You can create your flowcharts in either a single session or save them as templates you can reuse whenever you need to draw a similar flowchart. For more information, see how to draw and edit flowcharts in PowerDesigner. 84d34552a1
