The recent past was a period of significant change for us, as we have shifted to a fundamental and methodical approach to our Security Engineering. This step forward is necessary in order to focus all of our resources on mitigating risks and creating the best enterprise software security experience for all of our customers. We will continue to work on standards and best practices as we now embrace a service provider approach to security focused on customer experience. Such an approach is necessary to ensure the security of our product while we continue to monitor the growth and adoption of third-party services. GitLab is in the process of creating a set of Security Best Practices that outline the specific best practices that should be done at each phase of the software lifecycle: development, testing, production, post production, and incident response. We are also taking an iterative and pragmatic approach to expanding our product with new features and functionality. These features and functionality must be designed and built with security in mind to ensure the safety of our product, but without unnecessarily slowing down or diverting resources from our core security functions.

As we continue to bring new processes and products to market, we want to ensure our release cadence and quality are highly aligned with the rest of the software engineering team. In order to achieve this, GitLab is also continuing to adopt new technologies and processes for application development and security.

However, this also means that regardless of how apparent a vulnerability is, we can't fix every single issue. Of course, we would love to, but the reality is that we simply do not have the time to do so. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of experts that are responsible for keeping the Aborted and Fixable Risks to a minimum. Our internal Security Team does not use the ~severity and ~priority labels or follow the vulnerability triage process as these issues are triaged by product or other appropriate team owning the component. 84d34552a1
