as i mentioned, there are a few different methods to remove a password from excel. the process will be the same regardless of the method. the difference in methods is that the password removal from a software method will be slower and more tedious whereas the terminal method is faster.

once we have the core of the script written, we can start to add the other components. the first component is to read the zip file and extract its contents into a variable. for this example, i’ll just grab the first archive and the second archive.

this is a simple script for demonstration purposes only. the script is written in powershell and you can find it on the github repository. more complex scripts can be written to remove the password from a greater number of files, pull additional details, and automatically run for several files.

in total, there are a staggering 2,913,765 unique emails and 11,923,356 unique passwords that have been compromised in this breach. the way that i calculated the data is by running a pyxlsb query on the excel file. i then pasted the results into the spreadsheet and then removed duplicates.

the spreadsheet also shows what data is being held in each of the categories. the chart shows the breakdown of the unique breaches that are being held in each category. for example, there are 5,134,599 total unique emails and 3,845,325 unique passwords. this means that 12,462,680 unique emails and 6,543,634 unique passwords have been compromised.

this spreadsheet has been updated to use larger graphs and to show the number of records broken out for each breach (out of the total of 2,913,765 unique emails and 11,923,356 unique passwords). this is because the original spreadsheet was prone to crashing, especially when it came to the large data sets. 84d34552a1
