We can put green or amber tinted glass next to a light bulb, and it will reduce the brightness of the bulb over time. So the idea with dawning is to put an object that will absorb a certain amount of the light on top of a light source. This can be done with or without colored glass. You can create a simple dawning effect by placing a translucent or white object in front of a light source. You can adjust the amount of light affected by the object with a keyframe animation. This is a very simple way to create a simple dawning effect that will not look particularly natural. You can make it more natural by tinting or tinting the object with amber or green-tinted glass.  The ideal object for dawning is a flat surface, like a white piece of paper. This will absorb more light than a curved surface, like a black bar. You can have multiple objects layered on top of one another. In order to make these layers smooth and look like one, you would use keyframe animation with Gelling, which we will cover in the next lesson.
