React SEO Tags

React SEO Tags helps you easily add SEO tags like title or meta (any tags can be added) to applications created with Create React App such that these elements appear in the Page Source.

This solution does not rely on SSR or snap and is easy to setup and use.

Setup

  • Run npm i react-seo-tags
  • Create a file in the same location as your package.json file with the following code

     {"pages": [{
    		"route": "route-name",
    		"head": "<title>Your Title</title> <meta name=\"description\" content=\"Your description\"></meta>"
    	        }]
     }

    and name it seo-config.json Make sure that the route-name in the JSON file is replaced with your actual routes, you can add more routes and tags to the pages array. A folder will be generated in the build folder of your project for each route mentioned.

  • Create a file in the same location as your package.json file and name it react-seo-tags.js (you can use your own names - just make sure to substitute your name in all the areas referring the file) and add the following code

    const createTags = require('react-seo-tags');
    const path = require('path');
    const seoMeta = require(path.join(__dirname, '.','seo-config.json'));
    createTags(seoMeta,__dirname,'index');
  • Modify your package.json file and add the following postbuild script as shown

     "postbuild": "node react-seo-tags.js"

    Example -

    "scripts": {
    "start": "react-scripts start",
    "build": "react-scripts build",
    "test": "react-scripts test",
    "eject": "react-scripts eject",
    "postbuild": "node react-seo-tags.js"
     }

    You can also use it with other scripts or run it directly from the terminal using node react-seo-tags.js , just make sure you have your build folder already generated before you run the command.

  • Modify your routing on the server to route requests to the folders generated by React SEO Tags for the routes mentioned in the JSON file, the logic should be

    If folder exists go to folder else go to index.html

    Example .htaccess file for Apache -

    RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{HTTPS} off RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [R,L]
    Options -MultiViews
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
    RewriteRule (.*) https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI}/index.html [QSA,R=301,P]
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteRule ^ index.html [QSA,L]

Support

Please note that this package should not be used in combination with React Helmet, although there is no problem in using React Helmet with this package - the tags generated by React Helmet will only load after the tags mentioned in seo-config.
