7-Zip's interface may also be minimalistic, but it is and that's the complaint I would have about it: That theres not much to look at and there isnt much information to know. StuffIts interface is more customizable and lets you see thumbnails of files in archives, as well as a list of their content. If you wish you can specify a folder and possibly a password when creating the archive, and you will be able to see all the files in that folder. StuffIts menu is fairly easy to navigate, and is presented on top of the window which appears while compressing files. As you compress a folder of files, you will see its size decrease in the list. Theres no progress bar so you dont know exactly when its done. Theres an easy way to view both the original and compressed ZIP file. Add files, compress and view both files. StuffIt supports ZIP file encryption (AES-256) as well as ZIP file password protection. Additionally, it comes with its own encryption functions, letting you to create encrypted archives at the click of a button. You can alter the files inside the archives, and StuffIts Save As function will automatically rename/replace files in archives.

But one complaint about StuffIts interface is that its too small and difficult to read on a smaller screen. If you are using a 13 inch MBP, for example, you will see a lot of the screen space taken by the StuffIt window. On the other hand, its 5 MB file size will more than likely be fine to hold onto.

As a Mac app, StuffIt uses the Mac OS X file format Finder integration features. StuffIt integrates with the Finder, and if you have a mounted external hard drive, a partition on your Mac, or another disk or directory of files, you can choose to have it automatically be used as a destination for your archives. This is a great feature, and eliminates the need to swap folders and files back and forth. 84d34552a1
