styled-logger

styled-logger is a simple, yet powerful, customizable logging library for Node.js applications. It provides colored console output and adjustable log levels.

Installation

Using npm:

npm install styled-logger

Using yarn:

yarn add styled-logger

Usage

Import the loggerGenerator function from the styled-logger package and create a logger instance:

import { loggerGenerator } from 'styled-logger'

const logger = loggerGenerator('App')

Use the logger instance to log messages with different log levels:

logger.debug('Debug message')
logger.info('Info message')
logger.warn('Warning message')
logger.error('Error message')

Example Console Output

The console output will be formatted as shown below:

[2023-04-21 10:30:00] DEBUG | [APP] Debug message
[2023-04-21 10:30:01] INFO  | [APP] Info message
[2023-04-21 10:30:02] WARN  | [APP] Warning message
[2023-04-21 10:30:03] ERROR | [APP] Error message

The colors are applied to the following parts of the output:

  • Timestamp: gray
  • Log level:
    • DEBUG: magenta
    • INFO: cyan
    • WARN: yellow
    • ERROR: red
  • Message: light blue

Adjusting log level

You can set the minimum log level by passing a minLogLevel property in the configuration object when creating a new logger:

import { loggerGenerator } from 'styled-logger'

const infoLogger = loggerGenerator('InfoApp', { minLogLevel: 'info' })

infoLogger.debug('This message will not be logged')
infoLogger.info('Info message')
