How to Contribute to a GitHub Repository
Fork the Repository
- Go to the repository you want to contribute to.
- Click on the "Fork" button in the top-right corner of the repository page.
- This will create a copy of the repository in your GitHub account.
Clone the Forked Repository
- Go to your forked repository on GitHub.
- Click on the "Code" button and copy the repository URL.
- Open your terminal and navigate to the directory where you want to clone the repository.
Run the following command to clone the repository:
git clone <repository-url>
Make Changes
- Navigate to the cloned repository on your local machine.
- Open the
data/guests.js
file in a text editor. - Make the necessary changes to the file, following the guidelines provided.
- Save the file.
Commit and Push Changes
- In your terminal, navigate to the cloned repository.
Run the following commands to commit and push your changes:
git add data/guests.js git commit -m "Add your commit message here" git push origin main
Create a Pull Request
- Go to your forked repository on GitHub.
- Click on the "Pull requests" tab.
- Click on the "New pull request" button.
- Select the base repository and branch you want to merge your changes into.
- Review your changes and provide a descriptive title and comment.
- Click on the "Create pull request" button to submit your pull request.
