Uplink - Hacker Elite 2.0.0.5 GOG Latest Version

while the game is easy to get into, it's not quite as intuitively appealing as you might expect from a game released in a decade. but, once you get the hang of it, uplink is a great game. there are a few quirks. for instance, it's not immediately obvious why you'd want to buy a stronger computer. however, it's a lot of fun just having that power and seeing how far you can go. the hacking itself is a bit repetitive, but this is a game that lives and dies by its ability to get you into the head of its subject. and, despite what you might think, the game is never boring. every action you perform, every decision you make, has consequences, and the game lets you know what those are. whether that's a game of cat-and-mouse with a bank or a game of chess with other hackers, uplink will let you know what's going on.

the game is one of the better examples of dos-era gaming, in that it doesn't feel like a painfully dated relic. its menu system is slick, the controls are smooth, and the choice of subject is wide and varied. the only part that's truly dated is the in-game graphics, and, while this doesn't necessarily make uplink a bad game, it doesn't make it a good one either. still, there's no denying that there's an immense amount of fun to be had in uplink, and it still holds up well today.

uplink is a great game, but the fact that it's over a decade old now does mean that it's a little less compelling to modern gamers. this is a game about hacking into bank accounts and stealing data to sell to the highest bidder, but these days if you want to do that sort of thing, you'd probably do it with a smartphone. 84d34552a1
