During the installation of Arduino 1.0.1, I was getting a message that the driver for the USBtinyISP could not be found. I had done the install several times and got the same error over and over. After not seeing it with the Arduino 1.0.1 build, it dawned on me that it might be a driver problem. I ran Device Manager and found that "Arduino-Software, Inc." was a yellow exclamation mark in the "Identifier" section. I selected the device and selected "Update Driver Software." A dialog box appeared saying that the driver was not complete. I clicked the button that said "Update Driver Software," and then was able to click "Install." When the update was finished, I was able to copy the attached archive to my Arduino 1.0.1 directory and then create and upload sketches like normal. As a troubleshooting step, I tried the driver install for the USBasp from SparkFun directly, but no luck. The solution was in the note at the bottom of the USBtinyISP readme file: "If you are using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, please use the Driver Install Assistant and follow instructions for SP1 (or later) from this link: http://www.avrfreaks.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9298&p=143962#p143962." I got the driver from this link. Direct from MarlinFirmware.org, not SparkFun or ChipKit.


I've been trying to figure out how to get the COM port assigned to this device for weeks now. I've tried selecting an alternate COM port, but it's still the same error. I've tried entering the device on the command line, and I've tried running it on an old Windows 7 PC, to no avail. 84d34552a1
