i am a vfx artist and a teaching vfx artist. i use adobe muse but it is not a replacement for photoshop. the use cases for masking are fairly diverse and i can't be specific about a "best" tool for all situations. i mainly use this for layers management but can also see nice creative results. i also recommend using an alternate workspace for "this" file rather than saving it in your default library (unless you want it to inherit your crop/style/etc).


the result i get with the 6th patch applies to many different images, and works well, making the hairs surprisingly obvious, even though my reference image doesnt have much in the way of details. this is why it works so well - each of the 3 masks and the new ones are created using different algorithms. you may find that, after a patch of 6 (or more), the effect gets a little weak. you cant really blame it, as the more the program learns the more it locks onto the details (aka the target). sometimes the system craps out and just does nothing. working as a photoshop plugin offers some flexibility and allows you to choose which program to apply the effect to, unlike using the standalone version which will apply it to all files if set as an action. one of the reasons we have so many addons is to reduce the cost of using the program. i'd rather spend money on something good instead of skimping on a program i use less than others do.


with some software and not so great operating systems, you have to wait for every update - but with fluid mask, every new update just automatically triggers a new version available for download. it means you never have to wait for something like 9 months! more resources and advanced shapes are coming too, and the interface is great looking and easy to use. from simple to sophisticated filters, fluid mask has it all!  free upgrade from fluid mask 2.8.5 84d34552a1
