Altiverb 7 is the older brother of the reverb that you find standard with G4only, and has all the same algorithms inside. Altiverb 7 is designed to produce a slighly different sound to its G4only big brother. The dry tone, combined with the audible noise floor and room softening, is actually a little more intense, but the trade off is a dense, clean sound. There is also a 'zero' centre frequency option that always returns you to the centre of the frequency spectrum rather than the half of it opposite to the speaker. If you are producing anything below 1kHz, your mix won't benefit from this but at higher frequencies, where there are more overtones than we can hear, it can be a lifeline.

A problem you'll sometimes find with shorter reverb algorithms is that they do not return the original recording to its original waveform. That's a problem if you are sending your audio through a convolution reverb, in which case the original waveform you start with is preserved, but if you are sending it through a sampler, which just samples the signal and then passes it through the algorithm and back to your device, the original signal is lost. With Altiverb that doesn't happen, and it's therefore one of the most useful features in this plugin. These days samples are very short, with any impulses longer than about 20 or 30 seconds having to go through a down-sampling stage before entering the algorithm, so they don't need to be long either.

Other features of Altiverb include position independent filtering, which is a fiddly mess when trying to do it manually but means that adjustments can be made in different situations. Why remove the impulsive signature of one microphone when you need it in the mix? You can do that with the flip of a switch. Why replicate the response to your whole room when you need it only in a specific corner? You can do that, too, and of course Altiverb has a frequency response option, so you can even apply different stages to different parts of the spectrum. All of this means that you can apply Altiverb both to whole songs, or just to bits of them, to make them sound less like they're recorded in a large space and more like they're performed in a studio or concert hall. 84d34552a1
