the windows 95 bootdisks are available in a variety of formats, as a super disk, as a single disk and as an embedded disk. the largest is the bootdisks which are compiled with ms-dos 5.0 and later, this includes the dos 5.0 & later bootdisks and the windows 95 oem versions. the bootdisks are also available in 2mb zip format, which can be extracted using the winzip command line tool or a windows based extraction utility such as dcp or winimage. the 2mb zip format is the same as the above ms-dos format and is useful for extracting the bootdisk into a single 512kb drive. note the 2mb format also allows you to include bootdisk files within an archive. see also the dos & windows based bootdisks from winimage and the dos based bootdisks from dosbox. in the other bootdisks of windows dos & dr dos and dos based windows programs, the image is located on a single disk.

download the image for your os from the bootdisks page. the image is compressed using efs, which is a compression method used by ms and dr-dos versions of dos 5.0 and later. the image can be saved to a file using a file archiving software such as dcp or winimage. the image can also be extracted using a file archiving software, however this will cause the image to be saved as a compressed format and not read back by a file archiving software. you may need to extract the image to a single 512kb drive using a command line tool such as dcp or winimage, this will open the image in read-only mode.

these images have been archived using disk copy pro 2.6 (dcp) img format, which is a dos based utility which can also be extracted by winimage. each image is saved in 3 1/2 1.44mb hd format, but can be easily be converted into 360kb 5 1/4 ld, 1.2mb 5 1/4 hd and 3 1/2 720kb ld formats by both dcp and winimage. read convert.txt in each zip package which contains boot image & instructions bootdisks for versions of ms pc & dr dos and dos based bootdisks for windows up to and including me are listed here. 84d34552a1
