Last month we posted an article about Applying Kaspersky’s Temporary License Lock (TLL) . This month we have arrived at the end of that TLL time period and are ready to recommend that you update to this year's version of Kaspersky Total Security.

If you have followed this series of articles up to this point, you will already know that Kaspersky recently changed the way that their products work in a wide range of ways. In short, we have not been tested on the latest version of Kaspersky Total Security, which was released in July, but we have tested on Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 15.1.0.342, which is the last version that we know to contain the TLL concept. Kaspersky Internet Security 15.342 is fairly stable in our testing, and makes an ideal point of reference for those looking at Kaspersky Total Security.

The last of our first half of inclusions is a big one, with Microsoft's Microsoft Security Response Center offering an ESET product for a comparative look at Windows security. With a fresh extraction and certification from ESET's labs in Illnois, the only apparent difference from a fair comparison is that ESET's product only offers Windows Defender and is thus already fully certified. However, Microsoft's test also captures a higher-level suite of security tools aimed at enterprise environments, with the source code of the whole suite available for review in the CWE catalog . A total of three tools (many of which are common to both products) were tested.

Our second inclusion this month will be Arbiter . Tried and tested, older and wiser, we continue to do the usual testing and certification, with the Lab's extractions in the UK, and the tools onsets in Germany. And the usual good news – a flawless set, all WildList problems being rectified, and strong detection. It is clearly the most complete Kaspersky product out there in terms of anti-malware capabilities, and we are looking forward to working with the authors on getting it validated by GRC. 84d34552a1
