in the film, kevin mccallister (macaulay culkin) is now 13 years old, and has joined his parents on vacation at their new york city apartment. while kevin is home alone, a group of thieves break in, but accidentally leave one of their number behind. the thief is an old friend of kevin's, kevin manages to get away and hide in the apartment's basement. he is found by the caretaker, mr. mccallister, a widower who lives alone in the apartment. mr. mccallister decides to care for kevin and soon begins to teach him how to be responsible. the thieves soon break back into the apartment to steal the security deposit, but kevin and mr. mccallister manage to stop them. kevin is later introduced to his parents' friends, and after a mishap on a playdate, kevin inadvertently goes to stay with the mcallister's. kevin is then forced to help them when the thieves return. kevin's parents then take him to his grandparents in alabama for a holiday. the thieves try again to steal the security deposit, but are caught and arrested by the police, who find kevin in their trunk. kevin is then taken home by the police and his parents. but then the thieves break in, and one of them is thrown out a window and killed. kevin is then taken home to his parents, who are relieved to see him safe, and the film ends with them going home to alabama. 84d34552a1
