The portable, deterministic core of Google ADK's
long-horizon-harness,
re-implemented as Rust/WASM + TypeScript — no Cloud Run, no Cloud SQL, no
Gemini, no live-model dependency.
The ADK sample is a full reference agent framework (per-user sandboxes, Memory Bank, OAuth, sub-agents, a nightly "dream" consolidation). Most of that is Google-platform plumbing. Three of its features, though, are general harness-control primitives that any long-horizon agent needs and that port cleanly to a frozen, deterministic core. Those are what this package clones:

Why Rust/WASM for two of them
The halt controller and the command guard are both jobs Rust does better than a scripting language:
- The classifier is security-critical parsing. Splitting a shell command on
top-level
;&&|||while respecting single/double quotes and$(...)substitutions is exactly where an off-by-one becomes a bypass. Rust →wasm32-unknown-unknown(154 KB, dependency-free, no wasm-bindgen — the same build shape as@metaharness/oo-agents' cell VM) gives a memory-safe, sandboxed classifier with a 20,000-iteration never-panics fuzz test. - The halt controller is a pure reducer.
(config, state, action) → (state, decision)with no hidden globals means a run is deterministic and the state round-trips through JSON — which is what makes a session resumable:snapshot()the state, persist it,HaltController.restore()continues the exact same run.
The compaction policy is pure TypeScript: its value is an ordering guarantee, not computation, and every model-shaped part (token estimate, "what is a durable fact", how to summarize) is a pluggable seam.

The "arm on observe, consume at before_model" split is faithful to ADK, where a
guard sets halt_reason and the plugin's before_model hook consumes it the
next turn. A success (failure: null) breaks a failure streak.

Severities order allow < gate < deny and the verdict is the max across every
segment and substitution, so a dangerous op can't hide behind a friendly
leading token — the exact smuggling ADK's command_classify defends against.
Layer A (exfiltration) folds in: reads of secret-shaped paths, egress to a
non-allowlisted host, and metadata-server touches all deny. Every list
(deny/gate/allow/allowedHosts/secretPaths/netTools) and the
unknown-command default are policy-overridable.
CompactionPolicy — never lose a fact to a summary

compact() enforces: prune tool output → flush durable facts → summarize →
splice, keeping the last keepRecent events verbatim. If the flush rejects,
compaction aborts and the events are returned unchanged — the lossy summary
never runs over facts you failed to persist. That single guarantee is what a
summarizer seam alone can't give you.
LongHorizonDriver — the composed loop
LongHorizonDriver ties the three together into the ADK Runner shape
(turn_boundary → before_model → step → guard → observe → compact → …) with the
model and the gate-approval as pluggable seams. See scripts/demo.mjs for a
full run where a scripted model attempts an exfiltration command, the guard
blocks it, and the identical repeated failure trips the halt controller.
The driver never marks a command as executed by assumption. Its injected
ToolExecutor returns actual stdout, stderr, exit code, duration, artifact
digest, and policy receipt; the complete transcript and continuity state are
included in snapshot() and verified by verifyCheckpoint() on restore.

Measured on a 4-core x86-64 box: classify ≈ 11 µs/call (~91k/s),
halt.observe ≈ 9 µs/call (~108k/s) — both dominated by the JSON round-trip
across the wasm boundary, which is negligible next to a model call.
Honest bounds
- This is a faithful clone of three portable mechanisms, not a port of the whole ADK sample. Memory Bank, per-user sandboxes, OAuth, sub-agents, the nightly dream, and the A2A layer are deliberately out of scope — each is Google-platform-specific and would need its own justification.
- The command guard is a structural classifier, not a shell interpreter. It
reasons about command structure (segments, substitutions, quoting) and a
curated ruleset; it does not evaluate
sh -c/evalpayloads (those are gated as arbitrary-execution wrappers, the conservative call). Treat it as a strong guardrail layer, not a proof of safety — pair it with real sandboxing. - Its policy defaults are conservative (unknown command → gate; a net tool to an unlisted host → deny), which favors false-gates over false-allows. Tune the lists for your environment.
- No claim is inherited from ADK's platform evaluations; the numbers above are this package's own microbenchmarks.
