n8n-nodes-doclinth

An n8n community node for Doclinth — generate pixel-perfect PDFs (invoices, receipts, reports, certificates) from templates + JSON, right inside your workflows.

n8n can't run headless Chromium, so the "money event → PDF → email" step is usually the gap in a workflow. This node fills it: author a template once (by hand or with AI), then render documents from data forever. The render path is deterministic — it never calls an LLM — so invoice #4021 looks exactly like #4020.

Installation

Self-hosted n8n (GUI): Settings → Community NodesInstall → enter n8n-nodes-doclinth.

Self-hosted n8n (manual):

npm install n8n-nodes-doclinth

See the n8n community nodes documentation for details.

Credentials

  1. Create a free Doclinth account at doclinth.com (50 documents/month, no card).
  2. Create an API key at doclinth.com/dashboard/keys (dl_live_…, or dl_test_… for test mode).
  3. In n8n, create a Doclinth API credential and paste the key.

Operations

Document
  • Generate — render a template with JSON data into a PDF. Output as a binary file on the item (attach it directly in a Gmail/Outlook/SMTP node) or as a 24-hour signed URL. Options: strict mode, contract validation, page format/orientation/margins, PDF metadata, custom watermark (paid plans), idempotency key, and async delivery to a webhook URL.
  • Get Status — look up a past generation's status metadata by its request ID.
Template
  • Get Many — list the templates on your account (use this to find template IDs).
  • Get — fetch one template's details, including sample_data (a working example payload) and variables (every field the template expects).
  • Create From Prompt — AI-author a new draft template from a plain-language description. Drafts must be reviewed and published in the Doclinth dashboard before they render live output.

Example: Stripe payment → invoice PDF → email

  1. Stripe Trigger — on payment_intent.succeeded.
  2. Doclinth — Document → Generate, with your invoice template and {{ $json }} mapped into the Data field. Output: Binary File.
  3. Gmail — Send, with the PDF attached from the data binary field.

Use as an AI agent tool

The node is marked usableAsTool, so on recent n8n versions an AI Agent node can call it directly ("generate the receipt for this order"). Doclinth also speaks MCP natively if your agent lives outside n8n.
